ASSA members have been working with the Offices of Congressman Waltz and Senator Kelly on legislation calling for a uniformed maritime strategy. On Wednesday, they provided us with an up-date on the Maritime bill they have spearheaded called the SHIPS for America Act. You may have seen them provide the update on the Center for Strategic and International Studies on September 25th (click here). They intend to introduce the bipartisan, bicameral SHIPS for America Act during the next Congressional work period (November). The path ahead will not be easy. The only way this legislative effort will be taken seriously is if we assist them in obtaining broad-based support from throughout the maritime industry. The ASSA governmental relations group will review the draft bill to offer insight from the industry. Please let Tish Williams know if you would like to be a part of this review. The Waltz and Kelly team will need our help with endorsements once the bill is final.
